What’s going on in Nicaragua? An afternoon with Jose Antonio & the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign

12 April 2019 12:45pm–3:10pm

Northern TUC

What’s going on in Nicaragua? What impact is it having on education? How can peace and reconciliation be achieved? How can the UK trade union movement show solidarity and support Nicaraguan trade unionists?

To help find the answers to these questions the Northern TUC International Forum are hosting an afternoon with Jose Antonio & the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign.

Jose Antonio is General Secretary of the Nicaraguan teachers’ union ANDEN, he is also International Coordinator of the National Workers’ Front FNT (equivalent to our TUC) and a member of the Nicaraguan National Assembly, where he chairs the Education Committee.

Jose will be speaking on the crisis in Nicaragua and the process towards peace and reconciliation, with a particular focus on the impact of the crisis on education.

We will also be joined by Louise Richards, Trade Union and Communications Coordinator at the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign. Louise will be speaking on the work of the Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign Action Group which works to foster and maintain links of support and solidarity between trade unions in Nicaragua and the UK.

The event will be chaired by Conor McArdle, Chair of the Northern TUC International Forum and International Lead for UNISON Northern.

Refreshments will be provided at 13:45 prior to the seminar commencing at 14:00.

There is no doubt this will be an extremely interesting, educational, thought provoking and inspiring afternoon!
