Gateshead UNISON branch have reached out to their longest serving member to thank them for their dedicated service.

Robert Laurie, employee of Gateshead Council’s Local Environmental Services, has been a UNISON member for 48 years – he joined our former partner union, NALGO before it merged with NUPE and COHSE to become UNISON. At 68 years old, he is not only the longest serving member of UNISON but also the longest serving employee of the council itself.

UNISON’s recognition prompted the council to reward Robbie for his 50 years of service as a Gateshead Council employee too.

UNISON local organiser Deborah Bell said “I’m thrilled to be presenting Robbie with a certificate and shopping voucher to say thank you for being a loyal member for so many years”

Robbie has served not only Gateshead council but the people of Gateshead providing essential public services to help communities to thrive.

Thank you Robbie and well done Gateshead UNISON for celebrating your members.
