On Saturday 1 October 2016, a family fun-day and community celebration will be held at Monkton Stadium in remembrance of the 200 individuals who embarked on the Jarrow Crusade 80 years ago.
The event marking 80 years since the original crusade will include a number of speakers from families of those who participated, Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn and UNISON Regional Secretary Clare Williams. This will be accompanied by a number of family themed activities including a funfair and stalls.
Children from local primary schools will open the event by staging a symbolic re-enactment of the crusade inside of Monkton Stadium. Each child will be encouraged to participate in memory of one of the 200 original individuals.
UNISON Northern is supporting the event which will be a fantastic way for our members and their families to commemorate those 200 individuals from the Region who took the fight for jobs to Downing Street 80 years ago. The event is sure to be a fun filled day for all of the family whilst not forgetting about the true meaning of the day. Alongside the funfair, stalls and family contributions there will also be live music from Westoe Brass Band and the Gas Lighters.
UNISON have 200 wristbands for the day and if you are interested and would like to attend please contact Gemma Taylor on 07939107894 to arrange collection of a wristband.
Doors will open at 11:30am and the day will run to 3pm. Car parking for this event will be available on the old Lukes Lane Primary School Site. Monkton Stadium’s Car Park (Dene Terrace) will not be accessible to the public.
