South Tyneside workers and public support local food bank

Thanks to the generosity of the staff and members of the public they were able to donate over £200 worth of food to the food bank in South Tyneside.

Janet Green, UNISON South Tyneside LG Branch Secretary organised for a donation to a local food bank this week.

As the branch welfare officer Janet set up donation points across South Tyneside – including South Tyneside Council, South Tyneside Homes and South Tyneside Hospital.

Food banks provide for individuals and families in crisis for example sudden unemployment, delays in benefit payments, benefits sanctions and financial problems. They supply food parcels to people while they seek help to resolve their crisis.

Thanks to the generosity of the staff and members of the public they were able to donate over £200 worth of food to the food bank in South Tyneside. The food bank relies on donations to remain open and they can’t thank everyone enough for their continued support.
