Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have taken a significant step following a process of review regarding their pay. Following a UNISON led campaign that’s attracted significant local support, HCAs belonging to UNISON and working at Newcastle Hospitals Trust this week received some good news. The Trust has announced it will be moving forward with the re-banding process as an outcome of the collaborative work undertaken between UNISON and the Trust.
This is a significant step forward for HCAs in the trust. It means they will receive the recognition they deserve for the important work they do. Moving to a band 3 salary will provide HCAs with better pay and support future career opportunities.
UNISON branch chair Helen Firman said: “I am delighted the trust has agreed to move forward with the re-banding process. This is a significant step forward for all healthcare assistants to be rewarded for the vital work they do in patient care.
“The campaign has been a great success and UNISON will be working with trust managers to ensure the process happens fairly and as quickly as possible.”
